MEET YOUR ALDERPERSONS WARD #3

Sandra Gramkowski
What impact do you hope to leave on the City?
- I hope to leave a legacy of leadership rooted in integrity, transparency, and community trust. My goal is help create a stronger and more vibrant City for everyone. I want the residents to feel heard, valued, and proud to live and work here.
What's your favorite thing about Belvidere?
- I love that Belvidere is a diverse and welcoming community. Our Fire, Police, EMT/First Responders are second to none which fosters a strong sense of safety and hometown pride. Belvidere is a place where neighbors still watch over and care for one another.
What's something you'd like for people to know about you?
- I am strong in my Christian faith which guides the way I treat others and make decisions. I am a proud American and believe this is the most amazing Country to live in.
Tell us a little about yourself/your history.
- I have lived in Belvidere for over 20+ years. I grew up in DeKalb, graduated high school early, and attended college in Chicago. I have experience working in city government, law, sales, HR, finance, executive recruiting, and healthcare. I'm a lifelong horse owner/rider, hockey fan, and proud grandmother of two. My husband and I enjoy traveling to events with our horses and cherished Miniature Schnauzers.

What impact do you hope to leave on the City?
- I hope to reflect a positive example to others in our community. I strive to be the change or influence I want to see in others. Even the smallest act of service, when done with good intentions and a willingness to help, can make an impact on those around you.
What's your favorite thing about Belvidere?
- My favorite thing about Belvidere is the strong sense of community. Whether it's a local even, a school function, or just a friendly neighborhood lending a hand, there's a genuine spirit of connection and support that makes our City feel like home. It's the people and the relationships that make Belvidere special. I am grateful for the constituents of my ward and town who I have had the honor and privilege to assist over the years.
What's something you'd like for people to know about you?
- I'm just a down-to-earth person living in Belvidere. My motto in life is to live humbly and to help others whenever I can. I was raised to treat everyone with equal respect -- whether it's a school janitor or a distinguished guest.
- I have a deep love and appreciation for all animals. I have been a pet sitter for decades. Life is never dull when you surround yourself with animals. They bring endless joy, laughter and adventure to your life.
Tell us a little about yourself/your history.
- I was born and raised in Belvidere by my father, a single parent, and the youngest of ten children. My father battled cancer for many years, and when I was twelve, I moved in with my brother and sister-in-law. My sister-in-law, a high school home economics teacher, became the mother figure I never had. She was a true role model-loved by her students and respected by the community that knew her. I have a son who served in the Air Force, a daughter-in-law, and two cherished granddaughters.
- Life hasn't always been easy, but every challenge has shaped me into a stronger, more compassionate person. I believe in standing up for those who feel unheard and will always strive to be the voice for those who need one.
- I graduated from Belvidere High School and Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Psychology.
