MEET YOUR ALDERPERSONS WARD #4

Mike McGee

What impact do you hope to leave on the City?
  • I hope to make meaningful improvements by being transparent and engaging with my constituents. As well as supporting local businesses and ensuring that residents have a voice.
What's your favorite thing about Belvidere?
  • Belvidere is a great and safe place to raise a family. We have beautiful parks that provide many kid friendly and family opportunities and a great museum and library.
What's something you'd like for people to know about you?
  • I'm a life-long Belvidere resident, a die-hard Vikings fan and love to fish. I collect Viking memorabilia and vintage fishing lures.
Tell us a little about yourself/your history.
  • I graduated from Belvidere High School in 1979 and went to work for Cassens/Auto Releasing. After 41 years of loading cars on the train, I retired four years ago. I spend much of my free time fishing and working as an Alderman, I've been married to my wife, Ginelle, for 16 years and have 3 grandchildren. Brooke, Jordan, and Keegan and have four grandchildren.

What impact do you hope to leave on the City?
  • I hope that we can continue to attract new businesses that creates more jobs and lowers the tax burden for our citizens. I love calling Belvidere home and want to see it become better and better each day.
What's your favorite thing about Belvidere?
  • I love the small town feel of Belvidere. People are friendly and overall neighbors take care of each other and our community.
What's something you'd like for people to know about you?
  • I try to approach every problem with a commonsense attitude. I'm not concerned with political parties. I believe we can all work together to make Belvidere an even better town.
Tell us a little about yourself/your history.
  • My family moved to Boone County when I was 2 years old and Belvidere has always been considered home. I graduated Belvidere High School in 1994 and then served 21 years in the Marine Corps. Once I retired, we moved back to Belvidere. I have been married for 25 years to my beautiful wife, Kelly. We have a 24-year-old daughter and a 22-year-old son. I am currently a 3rd grade teacher at Meehan Elementary School. I feel very blessed to serve my community as an alderman for the 4th ward and as a teacher.

Do I Need a Building Permit?

Before starting any home projects this summer such as installing a fence, swimming pool or adding on a porch, please call the Belvidere Building Department at (815)547-7177 to inquire about a building permit. In Belvidere we handle all Building Permits right at City Hall. You may make an appointment to obtain a permit by calling (815) 547-7177 or applications are easily obtained on our website under Community Development. The Building Department is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
