The Belvidere Police Department conducts two Citizen’s Police Academies during each calendar year. Originally started in 1998, the academy is an informative look at modern day policing practices within the Belvidere Police Department and covers the following topics:
Department Structure
How officers are hired
Traffic Enforcement/DUI Enforcement
Use of force/Deadly Force
Crime scene investigations
Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) program
K9 demonstration
Gangs
Drug investigations
SWAT
Defensive Tactics
