Patrol Section

The Belvidere Police Department Patrol Section is made up of 24 officers, four sergeants, and two cover shift officers that cover two day shifts, two night shifts, and two cover shifts. These officers are the foundation of the department and provide police service around the clock, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Patrol Officers are responsible for preventative patrol oriented toward prevention of crimes, traffic crash reduction, maintaining public order, the discovery of hazards and delinquency-causing situations; crime prevention activities; response to calls-for service; investigation of crimes, offenses, incidents, and conditions, including arresting offenders; traffic direction and control; regulation of certain businesses or activities as required by law; provisions of emergency services; developing and maintaining positive relationships between citizens and the department; gathering and preservation of evidence; providing assistance and information to all citizens; traffic crash investigation; and selective enforcement such as alcohol and drug enforcement countermeasures.
