Fire Pension Board

The Fire Pension Board oversees the Fire Pension Fund in accordance with Article 3 of the Illinois Pension Code (40 ICS5/4).  In addition to managing retirement, disability, and survivor benefits for sworn members of the Belvidere Fire Department, the Board is also responsible for overseeing and safeguarding the Fund’s investments to ensure long-term financial stability.

The Fund is overseen by a five-member Board, with each member serving a three-year term.  Representation includes both the City leadership and members from the fire department:

  • Two members are appointed by the mayor
  • One member is an elected retired firefighter
  • Two members are elected active firefighters
